Dusting the cobwebs of my cpu, I came across this interview by none other than Kevin Ross. We met at Vista Ridge Mall; he came to BCBG for a job, and something told me he was destined for great things. It ended up not working out with BCBG, but he got a job in the men’s department at Dillard’s and he has excelled far and beyond a part time sales associate to managing a $10M store in Las Colinas. Consequently, the store he manages is Ross – one of my favorite places to get great deals!
In remembrance of 2011, I thought I’d share this interview he did with me for a school paper of his. Oh the memories!!
Question: You are currently working as a store manager for BCBG Max Azria AND running your business. How do you deal with your stress?
“ I see a therapist…weekly.” (Laughs out loud). I still do!
Question: What do you love most about what you do?
I love to help build people’s confidence through their wardrobe. When you look good, you feel good. Some people lose sight of that and it gives me much joy to bring it back to people.
Question: What are your responsibilities as a personal stylist?
As a stylist, I have to deliver my clients what they want. It’s important to listen to the client and find out their needs, so they will be satisfied in the end. I am also responsible for making sure the look or the closet makeover is complete and well put together.
Question: What if your client wants to wear something that you know will look bad on them?
I am brutally honest. I will have them put the garment and have them look in the mirror at themselves. I will ask them what they love about it. Most of the time they see what I see without even having to say anything. Most of the time though, women wear clothes a size or two too large. I will also turn them around in the mirror and show them where the garment is ill fitting and get them the right size.
Question: What advice could you give me, so that I stand out in a positive way against my competition in this industry?
Make sure that you brand your self, whatever your personal style is, make sure people recognize it and network at every chance you get. He’s totally taken my advice on this one!
Question: How confident do you have to be in this industry?
Confidence is everything in this industry because if you don’t believe in yourself no one else will either. You have to be confident and believe in your eye for fashion and believe in the decisions that you make.
